Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has praised 20-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, stating he believes the club-record signing will have a big career at the club.

The praise followed Yirenkyi’s impressive performance and assist in the 2-0 friendly victory against Monaco on Friday.

Recall that he joined Coventry City from FC Nordsjælland for a reported fee of €27 million plus add-ons this summer.

Speaking with the club’s website, Lampard stated that Yirenkyi is a good, talented, and young player whom the club believes will have a massive career.

He noted that numerous clubs around Europe wanted Yirenkyi before Coventry secured his signature.

“We got a lot of belief in Caleb here. He’s a player that we are very happy to have brought to the club. He was wanted by many clubs around Europe. We sold the project to him”

“He’s a good, talented player and young. We believe he’s going to have a big career. He’s a big addition to the club, and we saw signs against Monaco, and hopefully we see a lot more.”

He gained international recognition with the Ghana national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring a late match-winning goal against Panama.
